Electronic Data Interchange  financial data interchange

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) enables all public healthcare providers to simply interchange reimbursement data with insurance companies. Hospitals must also submit data on diagnosis related groups (so called EDI-DRG) to the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia; providers on the primary level however have the possibility of sending data on the choice of a selected physician (so called EDI-IOZ).

Until recently the EDIFACT standard was mostly used for such communication and all providers needed to have a X.400 box. Lately modern technologies are coming forward, e.g. XML and a usual e-mail box.
