Projects abroad  RETRANSPLANT

RETRANSPLANT (REgional and International Integrated Telemedicine Network for Medical Assistance in End Stage Diseases and Organ TRANsplant) was a project, which was performed from 1998 to 2003. RETRANSPLANT has implemented a regional network to link different national organ transplant systems, to give on-line access to European transplant coordinators, donor centres, diagnostic specialists, to increase Europe-wide the effectiveness of organ transplant services. RETRANSPLANT was stimulating partnerships between those who were involved in research, development and implementation of information technologies, and user organisations of the different tools of the Health Telematics. RETRANSPLANT consortium believed, that the health care of tomorrow needed to go to patients where they lived, instead of patients going to the healthcare systems. Such a system would save money and lives.
