MBL

Information system MBL is used in laboratories for medical microbiology, which carry out microbiological testing of samples that were collected in patients. Microbiologists try to isolate direct causes of infections and diseases from various smears, urine, stool, puncture, biopsy and other samples. Isolated agents (e.g. bacteria and fungi) are then tested for their sensitivity to antibiotics, antifungal drugs and chemotherapeutic agents and the presence of antibodies in various diseases is determined. Results of laboratory analyses are extremely important and valuable. A doctor can determine an effective treatment only with the assistance of reliable and timely laboratory test results, therefore it is of most importance that the process of microbiological sample testing is supported by the information system that provides quick and reliable access to necessary information.

MBL supports all key work processes in the microbiology laboratory:

  • keeping records of patients, samples, tests, micro-organisms, antibiotics, …
  • collection, updating and recording information on orders (accompanying sheets)
  • performing tests
  • collection, updating and recording test results
  • accounting and invoicing of services
  • preparation of various analyses and statistical reports
  • etc.

Microbiological laboratories usually work every day of the year, including holidays and Sundays. The samples are received from hospitals and health centers in the region, from the hygienic-epidemiological services, and from private medical practices and dentists in different areas. Also with the help of the information system MBL the microbiology laboratory in the Regional Institute of Public Health Celje (ZZV Celje) annually makes approximately 160,000 tests in the field medical microbiology.

Other users of the information system for microbiology laboratory MBL are microbiology laboratories in:

  • Regional Institute of Public Health Kranj (ZZV Kranj) (also sanitary microbiology)
  • Regional Institute of Public Health Novo mesto (ZZV Novo mesto),
  • Regional Institute of Public Health Koper (ZZV Koper),
  • Regional Institute of Public Health Murska Sobota (ZZV Murska Sobota)
  • IMI - Institute of Microbiology and Immunology Ljubljana
  • Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia (sanitary microbiology)
  • University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik
