Medical informatics is an area that has recently become accomplished; it is no longer setting up information systems anew, but is replacing them, modernizing them and mostly establishing communication between them. Infonet also pays a lot of attention to information support of electronic exchange of medical patient data between different systems.

Contemporary computer communication runs through web applications where two clients exchange messages. XML is a standard form of messages; their contents are in accordance with the HL7 standard (Health Level 7) that regulates the form of messages in healthcare.
